Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day to all! Some ask what is the deal with Valentine's Day anyway? Others believe that it is a retail conspiracy! But, I see it as a day to either celebrate or not. Sure the restaurants are packed, so even with reservations there is a wait, and there are balloons and chocolate galore, but no one is forcing you to "do" anything on this day unless you want to. Us women love to be loved, and why not have another day for all you men to make us feel like a queen? But if you don't want to, then don't! Sure we'll probably feel not so great, but if it doesn't come from the heart then don't do it! Besides Valentine's Day is a day of love and friendship and always remember guys if you won't wish us a happy day, then someone else just might!

My issue is really with the materialism or the day and the thought that I HAVE to celebrate.

You say choose to celebrate or not, but that is not so simple. My children are asked to bring in cards and candy... my friends all shared stories of what they will and wont be doing/getting for and from their significant others.

I think that it is a holiday that has morphed into another Halmark day. I love the people I love. This day doesnt make my love truer or better. In fact, I think this particular holiday makes more people feel bad then it makes people feel good.

People without a lover feel outted... people with a new lover feel stress to do the "right thing" and people who have been with their lover for years feel compelled to participate. I would much rather get a dozen roses after a really wonderful intimate date than get them on VD because society tells him to do that. Truth be told I would rather have him pick me a bouquet of something off the side of the road because he was thinking of me and stopped... (but that would be with my fantasy man not my husband... lol)I did participate... I made cards... bought gifts and prepared a big family dinner complete with heart shaped dessert... thanks for the comment today!! cheers! K

Kate I agree with you. But for those who are with the romance challenged and need a boost it's nice to have a built in nudge it least it can act as a segue to discussing it anyway

Hope you had a wonderful Valentines Day :) I have a weakness for chocolate, so this is the day I fall off the wagon! I'm trying to stay off the sweets, but it's so hard.
